Conaway Motors specializes in European and Asian made vehicles, and that includes being a Volvo service & repair shop near Marysville. In our last few blog posts, we’ve been keeping an eye on companies that are declaring that they will be only making hybrids or even going all electric by the year 2020. Volvo is among those companies, having announced that by 2019 it will only be manufacturing vehicles with electric motors.
Many of you might be asking yourself, “What does that mean for those of us who already own vehicles with internal combustion engines?” Those motors are now being dubbed ICE, a slippery sort of acronym, about which one must wonder. The real answer is complex, and truthfully, we don’t really know. Some areas are already installing a ban on ICE vehicles in an effort to help control an ongoing problem with air pollution – commonly connected directly with the presence of gas-powered vehicles. Areas that are instituting or planning a ban include China, some parts of London, and California. At one time, distance alone precluded using EVs as primary transportation, but the newer machines have travel ranges that often exceed 200 miles. The questions don’t end there, however. The new batteries, the ones that make this possible, require lithium and similar metals. Could there be a supply and demand bottleneck? Will gas stations become power charging stations? How can suppliers deal with the length of time that it takes to charge a battery? Will there be battery exchanges?
We don’t have answers to these questions, but we are aware of them. What we can tell you is that when you call Conaway Motors at (425)905-2424 we will continue to be your Volvo service & repair shop near Marysville. Whatever sort of Volvo you bring us, we will be here, doing our best to keep your vehicle on the road.
