While many vehicles take years to design and piece together, the Jeep wasn’t one of those brands. At the time of the World War II, it was important to get rid of the aging Model T’s and the government asked for a high-powered four-wheel drive vehicle as soon as possible. This is when a man named Karl Probst started to work on his design at a company named Bantam during 1940. It took him no more than two days to have the vehicle ready to go from top to bottom. Probst even took the time to put together cost estimates for the government before handing it over. While Bantam wasn’t able to keep up with the design, American decided to bring Ford and Willys on board to work on the final blueprints. This is when Ford came up with the legendary “Jeep” design that has now become part and parcel of its appearance.
One of the greatest mysteries might be surrounding the name. Where did it come from? According to historians, the word was simply a short way of saying a general-purpose car or “GP.” Instead of saying the letters, they preferred to go with the shorter “Jeep” as it rolled off the tongue. While no one can pinpoint the exact source of the name, it is one of those unique details that make it an exciting brand.
When the Jeep first came out, it was released in front of the U.S. Capitol. The army started to use it during the war, but Willys brought it to the public once everyone came back home. The Jeep took off in a hurry as most people wanted to get behind the wheel of such a rugged vehicle. It screamed power, quality, and efficiency more than any other brand. This is when other companies started to enter the segment of the market but Jeep continued to withstand pressure.
In modern times, Jeep is one of the ultimate brands on the planet and is idolized for its beautiful design.
